G Plan is a British furniture brand that was founded in 1898 by Ebeneezer Gomme. The company is renowned for its high-quality furniture and design, making it a popular choice with households, past and present. Previously G Plan was famous for its beautiful Teak furniture pieces, such as cabinets, tables, and wardrobes. In recent years the company has moved away from making wooden furniture and now focuses on luxurious upholstery items.
G Plan sofas and chairs are made at their British factory in Melksham, Wiltshire by highly skilled craftspeople. However, the brand's Ergo and Ergoform chair ranges are made in Europe to the same high standards. Each piece is handmade with the highest quality materials and attention to detail.
G Plan furniture will feature the brand's signature logo on labels, stickers, or stamps. This is usually the classic large "G" logo with the word "plan" inside. The logo usually features white, silver or gold text over a red background depending on the design year. Older pieces instead feature a golden stamp mark of the founder's initials "EG" in large capitals, the words "E Gomme, High Wycombe" around the perimeter and "G Plan" written underneath. Some older pieces designed by designer Danish IB Kofod Larsen will feature the newer style of G Plan logo with the words "Danish Design" and Larsen's signature. These models will too be stamped gold.
G Plan and Parker Knoll are separate companies, but they are owned and governed by the same parent company, Sofa Brands International. The holding company brought both brands from the previous parent company, Chrystie Tyler in 2005 following its collapse. Therefore, both brands have been associated with each other by their mutual parent companies for some time. Sofa Brands International also manages other well-known brands such as Duresta, The Lounge Co. and Collins & Hayes.
